Dr. Eugene Y. Rhee, a nationally recognized leader in urologic healthcare, combines clinical expertise with innovative leadership and strategic foresight. As the President of the American Urological Association 2026-2027, he leads shaping urologic research, education and policy advocacy on a global scale. He served as President of the Western Section AUA in 2025. He serves as National Chair of Urology for the Permanente Federation, overseeing the delivery of urologic care to 14 million lives within one of the largest value-based, integrated healthcare system.
Regionally, Dr. Rhee holds dual leadership roles as Region Chief of Kaiser Permanente Southern California and Area Assistant Medical Director for Business Line & Finance for Kaiser Permanente San Diego.
During his four-year tenure as Chair of the AUA Public Policy Council from 2019-2022, Dr. Rhee played a crucial role in shaping national urologic health policy. He spearheaded efforts in coding and reimbursement, federal and state legislative affairs, regulatory advocacy, patient and research education, and Political Action Committee initiatives. As a distinguished AUA Gallagher Health Policy Scholar (2013–2014), Dr. Rhee has also served as president of both the California Urological Association and the San Diego Urologic Society.
Dr. Rhee’s contributions to the future of healthcare delivery were evident when he co-created the AUA Telemedicine Task Force in 2016. He championed virtual care innovations well before the global pandemic.
Dr. Rhee’s scholarly work includes serving as the inaugural Section Editor for Urology Practice, focusing on health policy, author of over 100 publications in the peer-reviewed literature.
He has held key roles across AUA committees, such as Legislative Affairs, State Advocacy, Workforce Planning, and Electronic Health Records. Additionally, he represented the Western Section on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Clinical Urologists (AACU).
Clinically, Dr. Rhee specializes in incontinence, urologic reconstruction, sexual medicine, and minimally invasive treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). He held a clinical fellowship in urologic reconstruction and prosthetics.
His patient-focused approach reflects his dedication to innovation, education, and excellence in care delivery. Dr. Rhee also holds device patents in the field of urology, demonstrating his commitment to advancing the science of care through innovation and technology.
Dr. Rhee earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and political science from Emory University and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. As a graduate of the 2010–2011 AUA Leadership Program, Dr. Rhee has continually leveraged his dual expertise in medicine and business to drive systemic improvements in healthcare delivery, policy, and education.
