Saturday afternoon is the traditional time during the conference weekend when our attendees take advantage of all the recreational activities available to them in the area. For a complete list of recreational activities, along with contact information to make your individual reservations, please click on RECREATION ACTIVITIES Historically, the most popular activities for our attendees when our conferences have been at the Skamania Lodge include golfing, whitewater rafting and wine tours. Others have enjoyed taking advantage of the spa or sharing some family fun around the swimming pool. Legislative and Regulatory Priorities

Locally and Nationally in 2008, the WSUS is working with members of congress to address the following issues

1) Raise awareness that Urology is embracing the National Quality Agenda.

2) Urologists' Use of In-Office Imaging needs to be protected.

In-office imaging provides the fastest, most convenient, and often the most reliable reliable results - results that are routinely used by treating physicians in providing ongoing patient care. The use of office-based imaging allows for quicker diagnosis and prompt treatment. Timely imaging often prevents unnecessary treatment and associated expenses.

3) Congress must fix physician reimbursement before July 1, 2008 or jeopardize patient access. Further, Congress must continue to work to repeal the flawed SGR formula.

Physicians are facing a 10.6 percent cut in reimbursements commencing July 1st and an additional 15.6 percent cut in 2009.

4) The Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) Program needs to be evaluated by the GAO for its efficiency, integrity and compliance.

This program provides 30% contingency payments to auditing firms that identify improper payments from Medicare, even in the case of denials that are overturned on appeal.

5) Increase funding for urologic related research such as prostate cancer.

An Introduction to the Guide to Womens Health

With the fast pace of life, it can be difficult for many of us to find the time to take proper care of ourselves. Although there is a plethora of health-related information available on the Web and in the media, it is often challenging to identify helpful and precise information on which to base our healthcare decisions.

Several years ago, the Men’s Health Initiative created a Guide to Men’s Health that has been very well-received. Consequently, it seemed fitting to proceed with a women’s version of the Guide to provide brief and accurate information for the women in our community. Contained in this booklet is information ranging from nutrition, alternative medicine, cancer screening and treatment options to treatment of urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapse. The chapters are brief, but are designed to provide core information to keep you and the women in your life updated on fundamental issues that may affect their overall health and well being. We hope you find this Guide to be helpful and would welcome any feedback should there be other topics that might be useful!

What is Urology?

Urology is a surgical specialty which deals with diseases of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. Although urology is classified as a surgical specialty, a knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and other specialties is required by the urologist because of the wide variety of clinical problems encountered. In recognition of the wide scope of urology, the American Urological Association has identified seven subspecialty areas: Pediatric Urology Urologic Oncology (cancer) Renal Transplantation Male Infertility Calculi (urinary tract stones) Female Urology (urinary incontinence and pelvic outlet relaxation disorders) Neurourology (voiding disorders, urodynamic evaluation of patients, and erectile dysfunction or impotence).
